As a parent, I’m more alert to hazards I wouldn’t have recognized before.

Not because I say it is — but because the expecting and new parents I’ve taught to use these methods are telling me they learned more in this course than other hospital-led courses.

Because more than 10,000 students (yes, that’s a real number) tell me how my courses have helped prevent an accident.

Why? Because I am a Registered Nurse and a mom. In real life, as part of my real job, I assist babies who need help breathing — on a regular basis. The reality is, not every baby cries at birth, my job is to resuscitate those babies, as little or as much as necessary, so they stay in the room with you and go home with you. Everything I deliver is based on real experiences.

No more coordinating schedules – this couldn’t be easier!

I know the pain of trying to find the right course AND then find the time. I also know that most CPR courses don’t cover Childproofing and vice versa. We provide the benefit of both CPR AND Childproofing in one simple course.

Our courses are live via Zoom with an RN instructor.  Simply sign up and find a date that works best for you!  If none of the dates work, just let me know and I will work with you to ensure you get your course, even if one-on-one!

Pet Safety

Did you know that 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs every year in the United States alone?  Children make up the largest percentage of people bitten by animals.

If you are thinking of getting a dog, be sure to do your research and choose your dog very carefully.  Once you have a dog, it is very important to socialize your dog – a lot.  If safe to do so, hand-feed your dog often to teach them to take food gently.  Another good idea is to keep treats in your pocket and allow kids to hand-feed your dog (again, if safe to do so).  This will teach your dog that kids are friends.

Be sure to always supervise animals and children, not only for your child’s safety but for your pet’s safety too!  Teach your baby to never disturb your dog while they are eating or sleeping.  You can do this by creating a safe sleep and eating space for your dog.

Make sure you teach your children to never approach any animal, even if they are leashed and to always treat animals gently and with only kindness.

Introducing your Dog and Baby

Introducing your dog and your baby can create a lot of stress for both you and your dog.  When the time comes to introduce your new baby to your dog, here are some tips to help make the introduction safer and successful.

1.  Use the nine months of your pregnancy to prepare your dog.  Hire a professional trainer if necessary.

2.  Bring home an article of clothing with your baby’s scent from the hospital or birth center (their first hospital hat is a good choice).

3.  When you first get home with your baby, let your dog greet mom without the baby.

4.  Partners – after the visit with mom, help your dog get rid of excess energy by taking a long walk or throwing a ball for a least 20-30 minutes.

5.  Make sure your dog is calm before coming inside to meet your baby.

6.  Parents – stay calm.   Dogs can sense anxiety.

7.  Let your dog sniff the baby from a distance.

8.  Eventually allow your dog to get closer and closer.
